This Saturday, at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse, the Western Australian Oaks Day will go ahead, with the illustrious $500,000 Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) a feature event.
Due to jump at 4.20pm as the penultimate race of the day, the 2010 Karrakatta Plate will see 17 fantastic two-year-old horses starting, all hoping for a share in the purse.
Coming into the race, the Peter Moody-trained Miss Gai Flyer is going into the odds as favourite at $3.50.
The filly recently won a 1,200 metre race at Moonee Valley and could be a safe bet, starting from barrier 11.
Coming into the race, the Peter Moody-trained Miss Gai Flyer is going into the odds as favourite at $3.50.
Riosand could also be a contender going into the event at $6, and is a worthy wager having won all of his last three starts.
The race looks set to be close up the front of the field, with four starters all third in the odds at $6.50; Big Josh, Miss Condition, Motion Pictures and Absolute Pleasure even in the market.
Big Josh is a strong runner having finished second in the Perth Stakes (1100m) at the prestigious Perth Racecourse.
Rounding out the odds, Painted and Aylesford are both underdogs at $126 – and while unlikely to upset the odds, would provide a substantial payout to whoever placed a risky dollar!
Also taking place on Saturday alongside the 2010 Karrakatta Plate is the $250,000 Group 3 Western Australian Oaks (2400m).
