Local Filly Motion Pictures Wins 2010 Karrakatta Plate

April 19th, 2010

Motion Pictures, trained by David Casey, was the victor at the $500,000 Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) on Saturday at Perth’s Ascot Racecourse.

The 2010 Karrakatta Plate saw 15 two-year-olds compete for the title, with the Oratorio filly claiming the victory – the second offspring from Oratorio to have done so in two years, after Gold Rocks won the 2009 race.

It was a case of touch-and-go for the winning filly, having to overcome a virus in her lead up to the race – making the victory that much sweeter for the Ascot-based horse.

Miss Gai Flyer was the favourite heading into the race, and came into the straight leading the pack, but the Peter Moody-trained filly lost out to a gallant Motion Pictures and lost by a neck.

Absolute Pleasure, trained by Trevor Andrews rounded out the top three spots, while Riosand disappointed in the gallop, finishing in ninth position after heading into the race with strong odds.

Also taking place on Saturday alongside the 2010 Karrakatta Plate was the $250,000 Group 3 Western Australian Oaks (2400m) which saw Impressive Jeuney claim another win.
