2014 Karrakatta Plate Field And Betting Update

March 27th, 2014

The 2014 Karrakatta Plate is the feature event at Ascot this weekend and features the most talented two-year-olds in Perth doing battle in what is a fairly open betting race.

The current favourite in 2014 Karrakatta Plate betting markets is Simon Miller-trained Fuld’s Bet, who is currently available at a quote of $4.40.

Fuld’s Bet made her racing debut with a dominant three lengths win in Westspeed Two-Year-Old Event (1000m) at Ascot on February 26 and made it two wins from as many starts with a victory in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) at the same venue on March 15.

Miller has an extremely high opinion of the daughter of I Am Invincible and he is confident that she can record her maiden stakes victory, despite drawing barrier 13 in the Karrakatta Plate barrier draw.

“She is a beautiful looking filly,” Miller told Racing Ahead this morning.

“I never envisioned that I would get this many runs out of her.

“She weighs 530 kilos and she looks like a three-year-old colt, but she is hanging in there and she has two starts from two wins.

“It is all systems go for Saturday.

“She has drawn a little awkward, but hopefully we can do a speed map to offset that.

“We have always believed that the blinkers would be a major benefit to her and I have held off until the grand final, so they will be applied on Saturday as well.”

Fuld’s Bet is currently battling for favoritism in 2014 Karrakatta Plate betting markets with Cadenza ($4.60) who finished an unlucky second behind Fuld’s Bet in the Gimcrack Stakes.

Cadenza started her career with a narrow win in the Silver Signature Plate (1200m) at Ascot on February 8 and returned to the races a week later to take out the Magic Millions Perth Two-Year-Old Classic.

Another horse backing-up from the Perth Magic Millions Classic is Rommel, who is currently on the third line of betting at Karrakatta Plate odds of $7.

Rommel made her debut with a win in the Peroni Plate (1000m) at Ascot on November 23 and returned to the races with an unlucky second in the Magic Millions Classic before returning to the winners circle at Ascot on March 8.

There are plenty of juveniles taking form into the 2014 Karrakatta Plate; with Jezpark ($7.50), Django ($8), Prete A Partir ($31) all chasing back-to-back wins in the Group 2 event this weekend.
